Tip 1: Remove wrinkles caused by film application
You've just installed your tinted glass kit, but you've noticed a few small surface scratches? Don't worry, they're not real scratches, but little folds in the film. And the good news is that they're completely repairable!
1/ Why do these folds appear?
During installation, it can happen that a little air gets trapped or the film is stretched slightly askew. The result: fine lines form on the surface, rather like scratches. But don't panic, we've got the home-made solution.
2/ Equipment required
To correct these small defects, you need :
- a storm lighter (ideal for a stable flame) ;
- a squeegee (often included in our Variance Auto kits).
3/ The step-by-step method
- Work indoors, sheltered from wind and dust. Room temperature between 10 and 25°C is perfect!
- Identify the fold on your tinted glass;
- Light your storm lighter and lightly heat the area concerned. Caution: don't heat too close or for too long, the idea is to soften the film without burning it;
- Run the squeegee along the fold, from the center to the edges, to smooth the film;
- If the fold doesn't come off the first time, or if the film peels off again, repeat the process. The film is flexible and will tolerate several attempts.
💡Good to know: Our films are designed to withstand controlled heat. As long as you go about it gently, you can repeat the operation several times without risking damage to the film. One crease, two creases, three creases? Don't worry!
